Single Review: Mollie King – Hair Down

Mollie King Hair Down

Mollie King teams up with Xenomania on new single ‘Hair Down’
A while after British girl band The Saturdays split up, former member Mollie King started working on a solo career. Earlier this year she dropped the midtempo pop tune ‘Back To You’ with a dramatic video, but the release did not make much of a splash. Mollie isn’t one to give up though. Today she releases her brand new single ‘Hair Down’, produced by the Xenomania team who used to produce loads for both The Saturdays and Girls Aloud. Needless to say she is going full on bonkers uptempo on us this time!

No surprise here that ‘Hair Down’ actually sounds like it could have been a Girls Aloud track released 10 years ago, while Xenomania and Mollie threw in some of the swinging sound that made Fleur East’s ‘Sax’ a big hit. Let’s be honest here, ‘Hair Down’ does not necessarily sound like a hit in 2017, but at the same time I can see the proper pop fans going wild for this. For admirers of the repertoire of girl bands like the Sugababes, Girls Aloud and The Saturdays, this is a proper throwback. It is upbeat and fun, the production is bonkers and Mollie does sell it convincingly, even without the other four girls by her side. There is still some hope in terms of this being a hit with the general public as well, but this might take some time. Mollie King was announced as one of the participants in BBC’s popular dance show Strictly Come Dancing. If they will allow her to let her ‘hair down’ to her own song during the show, we might see it high up the iTunes charts the next day! Either way, we have something to bop to like it is 2008 again!
