Single Review: Loreen – Paper Light (Higher)

Loreen Paper Light cover

Loreen back in full swing with new single ‘Paper Light (Higher)’

You all remember Loreen, right? She’s the Swedish singer who basically helped the Eurovision Song Contest back into the European charts with her winning single ‘Euphoria’ in 2012. She won the contest by a landslide and the song was all you heard at every party that summer all around the continent. After all the craziness and the release of her debut album, she took some time off to record new music and now she is ready for her comeback with the new single ‘Paper Light (Higher)’.

A few months after her glorious victory Loreen released her debut record called Heal featuring a lot of great tracks like ‘My Heart Is Refusing Me’, ‘Crying Out Your Name’ and the title track. A year later, when Eurovision took place in Sweden, she launched the new single ‘We Got The Power’. Now it is time for a whole new album campaign and ‘Paper Light (Higher)’ is the first taste, and luckily, this tastes very good actually! Basically, this sounds like a sure fire hit and you immediately recognize Loreen’s style, without her blatantly copying ‘Euphoria’. What else would we want?

The production of the verses is quite unique with some influences from house and electro, while the chorus is a massive pop/dance banger. It is insanely catchy and the use of the higher register of her voice is a lovely choice to make this song stand out even more. This banger ends in a classical way with some violins and her gorgeous, soothing vocals. Loreen performed the song during the Andra Chansen round in Melodifestivalen on 7 March together with the Ukrainian band Kazaky. Both visually and vocally beautiful! Welcome back Loreen and your fresh tunes. You can listen to Loreen’s new single on Spotify if you are in Scandinavia. The single will be released on iTunes worldwide on 9 March.
