Gabrielle Aplin releases inner rock chick on first track of new album
Singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin gained quite some success with her debut album English Rain and hit singles ‘Please Don’t Say You Love Me’ and Frankie Goes To Hollywood cover ‘The Power of Love’, that even reached the first place in the UK. She took a few years to record a second album called Light Up The Dark that will be released in September. Aplin gave us a first teaser with the release of the title track that shows a different direction for the artist.
On first listen, it already becomes clear that ‘Light Up The Dark’ is a lot more focused on singer/songwriter music with a rock edge instead of the sweet and vulnerable sound of her debut. While her earlier songs were mainly based on piano and/or guitar, this time she goes all out with a full band sound, but her voice is able to carry this kind of track as well. About the new music, Aplin wrote to her fans in a news letter: “I’ve had such an incredible time writing and recording this album and I’m so so excited for you all to hear these songs, I’ve been dying to share them for months!” I for one am excited to hear more of this new direction on the album that will be released on the 18th of September.
