Review:
Sometimes when two artists meet up for a collaboration, you just know things are going to work out very well. I knew it could not go wrong when drum and bass duo Sigma announced a single with British singer Ella Henderson. Both artists had their fair share of success in the past year. Sigma went to number 1 in the UK with ‘Somebody To Love’ and ‘Changing’, a collaboration with Paloma Faith. Henderson of X Factor fame, had a huge number one hit in 2014 with ‘Ghost’ and her debut album Chapter One went platinum. If two forces like these team up, all that can really happen is another number 1, right?
Right! Their single together, called ‘Glitterball’ is everything you would expect and more. The production is drum and bass and the chorus is poppy. Of course the song starts out small with Ella’s deep vocals and then builds into a banger. The lyrics about falling in love on the dancefloor will be a sing-along at a lot of summer parties, I reckon. Just when you start to think that the chorus is a bit one dimensional the second time around with the repetition of ‘you got me singing oohoohoooh’, the brilliant ‘and I feel love, do you feel love?’ takes over as the last missing layer over the strings and it completely takes the track to a higher level. Luckily for all of us, Ella gets room to belt out the last chorus in a manner that only she can pull of. The higher register of her voice sounds utterly divine. What a banger, ladies and gentlemen. I would be surprised if this did not end up on number 1 in the UK for at least one week.
