Kenzie May is back with stripped down version of new song
Kenzie May caught my attention last year when I came across her single ‘Skeleton Key’. The subtle catchiness, her smooth vocal style, the light R&B vibe combined with some electronic pop elements, it all felt so right! The singer-songwriter ends her year with the premiere of a brand new song called ‘Honey’. i-D posted the track on Soundcloud and, not surprisingly, it sounds quite glorious. And that is not even the final version of the song yet!
“This is the stripped down version, recorded live at a friend’s warehouse in LA. We did it in one take and there’s a pretty gnarly video we filmed of the performance that’s coming in the new year”, Kenzie explained. The song is built on piano, finger snipping, some synths and even in this light arrangement, the song already sounds like a hit. The ‘pour some more honey on me’ hook is catchy as hell and her voice itself definitely sounds sweet as honey as well. So keep pouring honey on us as well Kenzie! I’m curious to hear what the final version will sound like!
