Single Review: Gwen Stefani – Make Me Like You

Gwen Stefani Truth

Gwen Stefani goes disco on new single
On March 18th the wait is finally over! It took her almost ten years, but Gwen Stefani will actually release a third album! After the success of Love Angel Music Baby and The Sweet Escape things got quiet around solo Gwen and when she tried to make a comeback with single ‘Baby Don’t Lie’ in 2014, the whole project got postponed again. In 2015 she launched the beautiful ballad ‘Used To Love You’ and the critics’ reactions were actually quite positive this time around. She now releases another one called ‘Make Me Like You’ and it is a whole lot more uptempo!

‘Make Me Like You’ is written by Stefani, with the help of Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels, Mattias Larsson and Robin Fredriksson. The last two did the production as well, which brings us a disco vibe. The song is light, swinging and very catchy and Gwen knows how to take it to a higher level with her vocal delivery. It’s full of emotion, a tad dramatic even, but for her that just works! The chorus settles in your mind from the first time you hear it and towards the last chorus we get these little chants and screams, like ‘oh God’ and ‘thank God that I found you’ which makes it even more infectious. It is like both vocally and production wise, they went all in with the last chorus and we’re not complaining! It is that type of song that you would expect Kylie to come back with, but Gwen shows she knows how to sell the hell out of disco pop!
