Tove Lo premieres Allegiant soundtrack
Tove Lo is back with some brand new material. The Swedish pop star had her big breakthrough with the single ‘Habits (Stay High)’ and was able to continue her success with single ‘Talking Body’. She launched her debut album Queen of the Clouds, toured a lot, and started working on new material. Her sophomore record is scheduled for later this year, but for now she treats us to a new song called ‘Scars’, which will be used as the soundtrack for the movie Allegiant, the third part of the Divergent series.
This track definitely sounds like it was recorded during the sessions for her debut, as the production is quite similar. The way the track is written sounds typical Tove as well, so this is not really a case of artistic growth or an evolving sound. Whoever is hoping for that should wait until the first official single for the upcoming album is released, but for now this is something to keep the hunger at bay. If you were into Queen of the Clouds you will probably dig this as well, as it is once again a melodically strong pop tune with a powerful chorus. There is a big build up with a pre chorus that easily lures you in. The lyrics might me a bit cliche at times, but the overall moody vibe will definitely fit the tone of the movie. It’s perfectly serviceable as a sountrack, but I hope to hear something a little more adventurous next.
