Single Review: Zayn – It’s You

Zayn unveils second single of debut album
It is safe to say that ‘PILLOWTALK’, the debut single by Zayn Malik, is one of the biggest pop moments of 2016 so far. The former One Direction singer debuted his first solo work in January and managed to climb to the first place in the charts of countries all over the world, including the UK and USA. Zayn and his team couldn’t have wished for a better start of his solo career. The debut album Mind of Mine is now scheduled for the end of March and to promote this, a second single called ‘iT’s YoU’ was recently launched.

If you ask me, ‘PILLOWTALK’ is definitely one of the best pop tunes that were released this year so far, but if the fans are hoping for something similar, ‘iT’s YoU’ might get a little longer to get used to. To be fair, the track is a whole lot less radio friendly than the former. The single choice however could be explained by the will of Zayn and his team to be taken seriously in the music industry. The ballad about an ex who didn’t really care for him (“She don’t give a fuck about what I need”) has a haunting vibe and manages to keep the attention production wise, but the chorus itself is a bit of a let down, due to too much repetition. Vocally he manages to impress though and it offers us another side to him as a new born pop star. It definitely builds up curiosity to listen to the album!
