Tom Odell announces second album and releases lead single
Tom Odell is back! The winner of the BRITS Critics Choice Award of 2013 took the world by storm with the utterly stunning single ‘Another Love’ and managed to sell loads of his debut album Long Way Down. The British singer-songwriter took his sweet time to record a sophomore album, but the wait is almost over. In June he will release Wrong Crowd and the title track was premiered yesterday as the first taste of the project. This sounds both refreshing and typical Tom Odell!
“I wanted the songs to sound big and dramatic; big strings and melodies emphasising the songs further – rich in musicality and holding nothing back”, Tom Odell explained about the sound of the upcoming record. On the title track he further explores his piano based singer-songwriter pop and cautiously flirts with electronic sounds, which results in a simply hypnotic chorus. The lyrics “I can’t help it, I don’t know how. I guess I’ll always be hanging around with the wrong crowd” are repeated over and over and his characteristic vocals get more intense with every time. The whistling parts give it an extra catchy, but at the same time kind of dark and creepy vibe. Such a fascinating song! Way to come back, Tom!
