Single Review: Aluna George – I Remember (feat. Flume)

AlunaGeorge I Remember

AlunaGeorge teams up with producer Flume on ‘I Remember’
AlunaGeorge is currently preparing the release of their sophomore album I Remember, out later this year. The electronic pop duo consisting of vocalist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid came back swinging in January when they launched the energetic single ‘I’m In Control’ with Popcaan. For the new tune they received some help from Australian producer Flume who curently has a huge hit with the stunning ‘Never Be Like You’, featuring the vocals of Canadian singer KAI. This combination of top notch electronic musicians seemed rather promising, but did it actually pay off?

To be fair, only partly. The good news is that ‘I Remember’ is a decent track that will probably work well in context of the whole album, but at the same time it is not the strongest single choice if you ask me. Of course it is quite catchy and the vocal effects and sampling is very much on point, but the chorus itself is a tad repetitive and I know they can do better. The same goes for Flume’s beats. His influence on the production seems quite minimal, as it sounds nothing like the hard hitting, heavily electronic beats on ‘Never Be Like You’ and his remixes of Lorde and Disclosure hits. Nonetheless ‘I Remember’ displays a sound that truly fits AlunaGeorge, but it would be even better if the album will feature some more adventurous sonic choices.
