Eurovision 2016 Review: Malta: Ira Losco – Walk On Water

Ira Losco Walk On Water

Ira Losco returns to Eurovision with hit worthy song
Long term Eurovision fans might remember Ira Losco, the young Maltese girl who brought her country to the second place by singing the cute pop song ‘7th Wonder’ and blowing some glitters on stage. Now, 14 years later, Losco is a confident woman with a strong voice who will own the much bigger stage she has to perform on now. She sings the track ‘Walk On Water’, a powerful pop tune with some drum and bass influences and a stunning production. Very contemporary!

It takes guts to return to Eurovision after a result that is almost impossible to improve. She brings us a better, less sugar coated song and her mature vocals have a raw quality to them. ‘Walk On Water’ was co-written by Swedish Melodifestivalen participant and promising pop star with powerhouse vocals Molly Pettersson Hammar. Molly is also part of Ira’s backing vocals and together they create a convincing vocal performance. The opinions about the clothes Losco will wear on stage, complete with visual projections, are divided, but the bookmakers still predict her to reach top 5 in the final. This might be a little too optimistic, but a place in the final seems secured, especially with her starting position at the end.
