Poli Genova returns to Eurovision and means business
It must take guts to return to Eurovision after a failed attempt to reach the final. Poli Genova tried to bring Bulgaria to the final in 2011 with her song ‘Na Inat’, but finished in 12th position in the semi. In 2016 she returns and this time she means business. She sings ‘If Love Was A Crime’ and the track quickly turned into one of the fan favourites of the year. Will she be able to pull it off in Stockholm this week?
Although ‘Na Inat’ wasn’t a bad song at all, Poli really pulled it out of the bag this time. ‘If Love Was A Crime’ is a contemporary pop banger with a great build up and some easily memorable hooks. She switched to English this time around but left some space for a Bulgarian sentence as the main hook. In this case, the bilangual thing works effortlessly. As far as the rehearsals go, Poli is still on track for a great result. Bookmakers predict her to finish in top 5 in the second semi and a spot just in or just outside the top 10 in the final. That would be a great result for Bulgaria’s return. We are rooting for you Poli!
