Song of the Day: Astrid S – Hurts So Good

Astrid S hurts so good

Astrid S is Norway’s next big pop promise
Where do they keep coming from? Scandinavia is full of amazing electronic pop artists and new talents keep rising all the time! Norway delivers another potential follow up to the success of Scandi super stars like Tove Lo, Zara Larsson and Kygo. Her name is Astrid S, she is only 19 years old, but she has the voice and material to make it big. Her single ‘Paper Thin’ started create buzz online a few months ago, but with new single ‘Hurts So Good’ she takes it to the next level. A perfect pop song that will definitely make her star rise even higher!

“You fight me off like a fire fighter, so tell me why you still get burned”, Astrid asks her lover in the first verse over a minimal but thick beat. The track about a troubled relationship is building towards a big chorus and all you can hope is that it delivers. It delivers and then some! Her vocals truly shine when she asks herself the question: “When it hurts, but it hurts so good, do you take it, do you break it off?” The melody in the chorus is so instant, could have been a winning Eurovision song. The production throughout is perfectly servicable and leaves the focus on Astrid’s emotional delivery. She surely serves us the emotive, electronic scandipop we love!

Astrid S will release her self titled debut EP on the 20th of May. The disc will contain five tracks, including ‘Hurts So Good’ and ‘Paper Thin’. She is currently touring Europe as support act for Australian pop star Troye Sivan.
