Mr. Probz makes comeback with soulful new single
Mr. Probz has been one of the biggest musical export products from the Netherlands. His incredible success started in 2013 within the boundaries of his home country when the acoustic ballad ‘Waves’ became a huge hit. Little did he know back then that DJ Robin Schulz would remix the track and turn it into one of the biggest dance hits of the decade. The song reached number 1 in multiple countries. He continued with the single ‘Nothing Really Matters’ which was number 1 in the Netherlands and his collaboration ‘Another You’ with Armin van Buuren did wel internationally too. Safe to say the expectations for new Mr. Probz material are high, but I can guarantee you that he delivers with brand new single ‘Fine Ass Mess’.
If his fans are hoping for yet another emotional and restrained ballad they might have to wait until he releases the follow up to album The Treatment, because that is not what ‘Fine Ass Mess’ serves. It is a mid tempo, but swinging tune, that breathes soul. He explained to Dutch radio station FunX why the song was recorded in Atlanta: “That is where you find the old rock & roll and soul. I have always wanted to make a track like this!” ‘Fine Ass Mess’ sounds raw at times, but is at the same time catchy enough to appeal to popular radio. The lyrics deal with a girl who appears to be sweet and calm, but in reality is wild and unpredictable. “I have to watch her and that hurts”, is how Probz explains the emotions of the tune. This sounds quite different from his hit singles so far, so I applaud the risky move of choosing this soulful piece as comeback single. It suits his vocals so well though! This deserves to be his next success story.

Mr. Probz neemt risico met soulvolle nieuwe single
Mr. Probz behoorde de afgelopen jaren tot één van de grootste exportproducten van de Nederlandse muziekmarkt. De rapper en zanger maakte in 2013 grote indruk door de akoestische ballad ‘Waves’, dat een grote hit werd. De zanger wist toen echter nog niet dat het lied een wereldwijde nummer 1 hit zou worden in de dance versie die Robin Schultz ervan maakte. Het werd zelfs één van de allerpopulairste dance tracks van de afgelopen jaren. Hij volgde het succes op met ‘Nothing Really Matters’ dat in Nederland de nummer 1 haalde. Ook verscheen er nog een samenwerking met Armin van Buuren, ‘Another You’, dat voor internationaal succes zorgde. Nu is hij terug met de gloednieuwe single ‘Fine Ass Mess’, dat geheel anders klinkt, maar zeker het wachten waard is.
Als zijn fans hopen op een volgende akoestische ballade, moeten ze wellicht nog even wachten op de opvolger van het album The Treatment, want dat is niet wat hij aflevert met ‘Fine Ass Mess’. Dit is namelijk midtempo, maar oh zo swingende soul! Aan FunX vertelde Probz dat hij de single met opzet in Atlanta heeft opgenomen. “Daar vind je die oude rock & roll en soul. Ik heb altijd al zo’n nummer willen maken.” De plaat klinkt bij vlagen rauw, maar is tegelijkertijd pakkend genoeg om het goed te doen op de hedendaagse radio. Tekstueel gezien draait het om een meisje dat ‘van buitenaf lief en kalm lijkt, maar eigenlijk een soort wervelwindje is die niet altijd de juiste keuzes maakt’. “Ik moet toekijken hoe en dat doet me pijn”, legt hij de emoties achter het nummer uit. Het klinkt behoorlijk anders dan zijn hitsingles tot nu toe, dus het is stoer van Mr. Probz om deze risicovolle track als comeback single te gebruiken. Het past hoe dan ook perfect bij zijn stem. Probz is klaar voor het volgende succesverhaal!
