Dami Im covers The Carpenters on new album
All of Dami Im’s brand new fans who discovered her thanks to participating in the Eurovision Song Contest, have a little something to enjoy while they wait for brand new music by the Australian pop star. A month before her glorious second place in the biggest European music competition with ‘Sound of Silence’, she released her third studio album, solely filled with covers of famous tracks by The Carpenters. The winner of the Australian X Factor in 2013 shows once more that she is a versatile performer with a hell of a voice!
For the whole Classic Carpenters album, Dami has a perfect control over her vocals. She moves, impresses, but never over sings. The perfect example is her cover of the famous hit ‘(They Long to Be) Close to You’. Dami’s version has a lightly jazzy and laidback vibe which does wonders for her vocals. She perfectly conveys the warmth of the lyrics in her voice and the whole cover project is rather classy, instead of the tacky impersonations we sometimes have to deal with when artists do a similar record. This was probably a popular Mothers Day gift in Australia, as the album entered the ARIA charts at number 1! This will do for now, but we are of course eager to hear more original songs after the outstanding ‘Sound of Silence’.
