Always wondered what pop stars themselves listen to whenever they are not on stage or writing new music? It’s time to find out! Every week, A Bit of Pop Music will bring you Friday’s Five Tunes, a selection of five favourite songs by a current pop artist. This week we present you Mathew V’s jams!

Mathew V is a 19-year-old pop artist from Canada. The soulful singer-songwriter has been working in London for a while to record new music and he states he finally found a sound he is completely comfortable with. The classically trained vocalist just launched his official debut single ‘No Bad News’ and now he tells A Bit of Pop Music all about his personal, current music favourites!

Willa – Swan
“This track has such badass flavour and taste. It gets me all fired up. Willa has killer vocals, the production is top notch and the structure of the song is diverse. She definitely is one of the most exciting new artists of 2016.

Amy Winehouse – Tears Dry On Their Own
“This is classic soul by a legendary artist. Need I say more?”

Astrid SHurts So Good
“Again, this young Norwegian singer is such an exciting new artist for 2016. ‘Hurts So Good’ has pop sensibility for days! As a writer I am completely envious that I wasn’t the one writing this tune.”

Tor Miller – Midnight
“This track gives me chills every single time. It never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Again, a big breakout artist for me this year. A dream collaboration might I add.”

Seinabo Sey – Still
“‘Still’ is a masterpiece of emotive expression. I bawled within the first 30 seconds of this track. One of my favourites this year for sure.”

A fantastic list of current favourites by Mathew V! We at A Bit of Pop Music also have a current favourite, which is Mathew’s very own debut single ‘No Bad News’. Listen to the soulful and infectious pop tune now!
