Miriam Bryant returns in English with stunning ‘Black Car’
Miriam Bryant’s star is rising is fastly. She released her debut album Raised In Rain back in 2013, when her single ‘Push Play’ became a hit in her home country Sweden. A lot has happened ever since. She released the Push Play EP internationally and already came back in 2014 with an EP called I Am Dragon. Her big breakthrough in Sweden happened when she participated in Så Mycket Bättre, a television show in which artists cover each other’s songs. Bryant’s Swedish languaged covers turned out to be the most popular, but luckily enough for the rest of the world, she now returns with a brand new song in English, titled ‘Black Car’.
It seems that Miriam Bryant and her team currently only focus on the Swedish market, although she did have some international success with the track ‘Find You’, a collaboration with Zedd and Matthew Koma. This choice is understandable, but it would be a waste if ‘Black Car’ did not get a push internationally, because it’s freaking stunning! It is a midtempo pop number which builds a beautiful atmosphere, somewhat similar to the way Lana Del Rey did on her Born To Die album, both sonically and lyrically. Bryant relies more on the lower register of her voice which makes her sound sensual. The chorus has a huge soaring melody, while the production remains subtle and understated. The best part is where the second chorus burts into a middle eight. Bryant belts her heart out to beg for some connection between her and an estranged lover and that makes for a huge pop moment. She has seriously outdone herself on this one.
Somebody please tell this girl that ‘Black Car’ needs an international release! For now it is Sweden only, so the Swedes can listen to it on Spotify.
For the rest of the world, here is an unofficial upload on YouTube (for now).
