Mabel’s new single ‘Thinking Of You’ is 90s throwback
After Mabel was selected for the longlist of the BBC Sound of 2016, it took her a while to release new music. After the quite brilliant ‘My Boy My Town’ last year, the daughter of Neneh Cherry and Massive Attack producer Cameron McVey now launched a brand new single. The track is called ‘Thinking Of You’ and might be the most radiofriendly thing she has done so far. The breezy and laidback single breathes the R&B sound of the 90s and oh how we missed those days!
‘Thinking Of You’ reminds strongly of the catchy R&B made popular by artists like TLC, Aaliyah and En Vogue. The track written by Mabel and Joel Pottis is driven by a relaxed drum rhythm, some strings and of course Mabel’s dreamy and warm vocals are the cherry on top. Needless to say the chorus is incredibly catchy and as you would expect from this kind of throwback to the R&B from the 90s, the lyrics deal with an all consuming love affair. The summery video directed by Joe Alexander perfectly fits with the vibe of the song. Mabel steps up her game on this one and this could do well on radio over the summer!
