Ansel Elgort debuts as singer with ‘Home Alone’
You probably already know Ansel Elgort as an actor. The American multitasker is mostly known for his roles in the Divergent series and The Fault in Our Stars, but has been steadily working on his music career as well. He started out as a DJ and producer under the name Ansolo, but recently decided he wanted to provide his own vocals to his tracks and now uses his very own name to release. His first single is on YouTube and SoundCloud now and will officially be released on Spotify and iTunes on the 22nd of July.
So what does it sound like? Not bad at all to start with, especially when you take into account that he produced and wrote it all himself. It is not hard to hear he started out in music as producer and DJ, as the track has a futuristic electronic producer, somewhat similar to the style of Flume and Major Lazer. His vocals suit this type of track perfectly and it is great to see he carved out a style for himself so soon in his musical career. Lyrically, however, there is still some room for improvement. The track is about Ansel trying to prove to an ex lover that he will treat her better, but sentences like ‘Cause baby you’re the world, I won’t be your pollution’ and ‘miss your smile, and miss your laugh, and miss the memories from our past’ are a bit cringy and meaningless. If he gets some lessons from other songwriters, he can go places with his next single.
