Helena Paparizou celebreates summer with ‘Fiesta’
Can you believe it is already 11 years ago that Helena Paparizou won the Eurovision Song Contest? The Greek pop star brought the win home to Athens in 2005 with the catchy tune ‘My Number 1’ and to this date, she is still going strong as one of the biggest pop stars in the country. Paparizou, who grew up in Sweden, also participated in the country’s Melodifestivalen (the huge preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest) in 2014 and finished in a respectable fourth place with the track ‘Survivor’. She has switched between tracks in Greek and English for years and she releases her new single ‘Fiesta’ in both languages.
With ‘Fiesta’ Helena, who showed to be able to handle musical styles from Greek modern laika to electro pop, returns to the swinging uptempo summery pop sound that made her so popular at and after the Eurovision Song Contest of 2005. The pop tune sounds full of life and could well be your soundtrack if you plan to spend your summer holidays in Greece this year. Everything about that rhythm and the vibe wants you to spend your evening at a beach party. It might not be the most contemporary sounding, but it is a lush way of bringing back the style of her glory days. Paparizou performed the track on the MAD Video Music Awards and during a live show of the Greek X Factor and it is expected to be all over the radio over the summer months! Welcome back Helena!
