Single Review: Bastille – Fake It

Bastille Wild World

Bastille premieres new track of upcoming sophomore album
We only have a few weeks to go before Bastille drops their long awaited sophomore album. Wild World will be released on the 9th of September and the pre-order is about to go up Friday the 29th of July. Seems like the perfect timing to premiere another tune and that is what Dan and his men did. ‘Fake It’ was played as Zane Lowe’s World Record last night and it is a great pop tune. Wild World is shaping up to be a hell of a comeback!

First single ‘Good Grief’ was launched in June and although being an infectious pop tune, it hasn’t exactly been setting the international charts on fire just yet. Where ‘Good Grief’ had a more subtle and lighter production, ‘Fake It’ is more in line with the bombastic sound that made the band successful in the first place. ‘Fake It’ again opens with a film quote (this time from ‘Social Seminar: Changing’, released by the National Institute of Mental Health in 1971) and then builds into a dark, but soaring anthem with some deep bass tones and emotive vocals. The lyrics are about holding on to a relationship that turned sour, because you still want to spend time with that person: “Don’t turn over, turn over the page. We should rip it straight out. Then let’s try our very best to fake it.” ‘Fake It’ is a great tune and might be Bastille’s better shot at another hit!
