Friday’s Five Tunes with Molly Pettersson Hammar

Molly Pettersson Hammar

Always wondered what pop stars themselves listen to whenever they are not on stage or writing new music? It’s time to find out! Every week, A Bit of Pop Music will bring you Friday’s Five Tunes, a selection of five favourite songs by a current pop artist. This week Molly Pettersson Hammar tells us about the songs that she loves!

Molly Pettersson Hammar broke through in Sweden when she participated in talent show Idol in 2011. She finished in fourth place. She returned to the spotlights in 2015, participating in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song ‘I’ll Be Fine’ didn’t make it through the next round, but did well in the charts, convincing her to try again. In 2016 she made it through to Andra Chansen with ‘Hunger’. She also co-wrote Malta’s entry ‘Walk On Water’ and performed backing vocals on the Eurovision stage! In between all the Eurovision business she released two delicious pop tunes, ‘Something Right’ and ‘Liberate’. While we are eagerly waiting for her debut album to drop, Molly took some time to select her five favourite songs of the moment for A Bit of Pop Music!

Maysa – I Can’t Help It
“This song is one of my all time favourites! I love the fact that it’s so soulful and slick. It’s a real feel good tune!”

Snakehips feat. Zayn – Cruel
“The lyrics on this tune are unbelievable and Zayn’s vocals are insane.”

BJ the Chicago Kid – Turnin’ Me Up
“‘Turnin’ Me Up’ is also very soulful and funky, which is basically the only thing I listen to at the moment. His voice is pure love.”

Ro James – Permission
“I’m a real sucker for R&B and this tune has turned my world around. Besides listening to myself, this song is on repeat!”

Clean Bandit feat. Louisa Johnson – Tears
“I love Clean Bandit and this song has inspired me a lot lately when I’m writing songs. A good mix between pop and soul.”

It seems like Clean Bandit’s ‘Tears’ is very popular at the moment, as last week, Kiara Nelson selected the track as well. Molly Pettersson Hammar delivered a delicious mix of pop, soul and R&B with this list. She united soul and electronic pop on her most recent single ‘Liberate’. Listen to the catchy tune below!
