Always wondered what pop stars themselves listen to whenever they are not on stage or writing new music? It’s time to find out! Every week, A Bit of Pop Music will bring you Friday’s Five Tunes, a selection of five favourite songs by a current pop artist. This week it’s Dotter’s turn to share all about the songs she loves the most!
Dotter is the stage name of Swedish pop artist Johanna Jansson. She started out with the release of singles like ‘My Flower’ and ‘Dive’ and recently reached new heights with her latest track ‘Creatures of the Sun’. The deliciously bombastic pop tune is a tribute to ancestors and coincedence and sure makes us want to hear more of this exciting mystical artist. She found time to talk to A Bit of Pop Music about her favourite tracks!
Led Zeppelin – Days
“This is my absolute most played record in my vinyl collection. It’s summer and I just wanna dance and go wild and crazy. This song is the best one to get in that crazy mood!”
Ulf Lundell – Sniglar Och Krut
“Every time it is summer I’m obsessed with listening to Uffe’s first record called Vargmån. It reminds me of that summer when I turned 14 and I listened to this album on repeat while sunbading on the porch and reading Uffes book ‘Jack’. I just love the late 60s, early 70s! This is my favorite song on the album.”
Violet Days – Your Girl
“Well, it’s not because the front woman of this amazing band, Lina Hansson, is one of my best friends, I really really looove this song! And Lina and her band really deserves a lot more attention, I can’t believe why their music hasn’t reach Billboard already!”
Heaven and Earth – A Light Is Shining
“This is also a band that didn’t get the attention that they deserved and they’re still unknown. They released one album in 1973 and it is amazing! ‘A Light Is Shining’ is my favorite song. In the reissue of the album there’s a paper with the story about what happened to the band. One of the members chose to quit the band because of a family matter. I think they would have been well known if they did continue trying.”
The Smiths – Meat Is Murder
“The title tells the truth, we live in a bizarre world. I can’t believe that humans are still eating animals in 2016, but I hope we all realize very soon how much suffering we are contributing to in this world. The animals deserve to live as much as you and me. So this song is for the animals, for the animal rights, for the ones without a voice!”
That’s a very interesting list with old and new and a message! Haven’t you heard Dotter’s very own ‘Creatures Of The Sun’ yet? Check out the video!
