EP Review: Florence + the Machine – Songs From Final Fantasy XV

Florence Machine Songs Final Fantasy

Florence + the Machine records EP as soundtrack for Final Fantasy
After last year’s stunning album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, record of the year according to A Bit of Pop Music, no new music by Florence + the Machine was expected in 2016, so it is a nice surprise she dropped an EP today. The band of Florence Welch toured extensively over the past year, but found some time to be in the studio as well. The collection of three songs is a soundtrack to the game Final Fantasy XV and includes her cover of ‘Stand By Me’, which premiered earlier this year, and two original songs!

Although a cover of Ben E. King’s ‘Stand By Me’ might be one of the most unoriginal choices you can make as an artist, Florence of course managed to make the track completely her own. The instrumentation with some strings and subtle touches of harp and her larger than life vocals make it sound like she has written it herself. Both songs she did write herself with help of Emile Haynie and Jeff Bhasker for this EP are over five minutes long and have an ethereal vibe with heavenly instrumentation. Out of the two, ‘Too Much Is Never Enough’ is definitely the more instant one with a vivacious build up to a powerful chorus. ‘I Will Be’ is a piece with a hypnotic piano part and a long intro. We don’t get a lot of lyrics on this one, but Florence sounds just as gorgeous when humming, whispering and belting. This is a perfect release to satisfy our hunger for now in the wait of her fourth studio album.
