Single Review: Zayn – You Can’t Hide (feat. Teddy Pendergrass & Grandmaster Flash)

The Get Down Soundtrack

Zayn shows different side on new track ‘You Can’t Hide’
Earlier this week, Christina Aguilera’s collaboration with Nile Rodgers, ‘Telepathy’, recorded for the soundtrack of Netflix orginal series The Get Down, premiered. The whole album is officially out now and also features an interesting new track by former One Direction star Zayn Malik. He recorded ‘You Can’t Hide / You Can’t Hide From Yourself’ with Teddy Pendergrass and Grandmaster Flash. He shows a totally new side to his musical abilities.

Zayn started his solo career earlier this year with the release of the successful single ‘Pillowtalk’ and the accompanying hit and miss album Mind of Mine. He is currently in the charts with his quite brilliant Snakehips collaboration ‘Cruel’ and we already get another tune. His contribution to the soundtrack of The Get Down is a rework of R&B and disco hit ‘You Can’t Hide From Yourself’ from the late Teddy Pendergrass. With help of hiphop pioneer producer Grandmaster Flash the modern day R&B of Zayn effortlessly flows over in the 70s sound of the original. Zayn excels with the higher register of his voice and the chorus is glorious. He once again shows a lot of potential and we can look forward for what is to come in his career.
