Single Review: Craig David – Ain’t Giving Up / No Holding Back

Craig David Following My Intuition

Craig David announces new album and drops two tracks
Don’t you feel old when you realize it is already sixteen years ago that Craig David broke through with hit singles like ‘7 Days’ and ‘Walking Away’? In the years after this he had success with ‘What’s Your Flava’, ‘Rise & Fall’ and ‘All The Way’, but didn’t really appear in the higher regions of the charts after 2007’s ‘Hot Stuff (Let’s Dance)’. Now he announced the release of a new album titled Following My Intuition, out on the 30th of September. The single leading up to the release will be ‘Ain’t Giving Up’, a collaboration with Sigala and he also dropped the new tune ‘No Holding Back’ with Hardwell.

Craig David has been a busy man over the past couple of months. He started his new campaign by dropping ‘When The Bassline Drops’ with Big Narstie in 2015 and followed this up with ‘Nothing Like This’, a collaboration with Blonde, and ‘One More Time’ earlier this year. His sound is related to what acts like Gorgon City and MNEK do, mixing R&B melodies with some straight up house beats. The new single ‘Ain’t Giving Up’ with Sigala buys in on the tropical house trend that is going on. It’s short but sweet and has a strong but repetitive hook that sticks. It sounds very 2016 so could maybe make some waves on the radio, although today’s younger generation might not be aware of him. The pre-order for his upcoming album is online now and you can instantly get ‘No Holding Back’, a track he did with Dutch DJ Hardwell. The production of the verses is a throwback to the R&B of the noughties, but the drop features a deep house beat. It actually works and all tracks released of this project so far turned out to be extremely danceable and catchy! I can already tell his album will be perfect for work outs or before a night of clubbing.
