Spencer Sutherland shows off pop star potential with weekly covers
There is a generation of pop stars out there that made their way to chart success through uploading YouTube covers. It has helped Justin Bieber getting noticed in order to become one of the biggest pop stars in the world and acts like Karmin and Cody Simpson all started their path to fame through uploading their versions of famous songs on the world’s largest video sharing network. This must have inspired potential pop star Spencer Sutherland from Pickerington, Ohio, to give it a go. The singer-songwriter has been uploading a cover each week over the past couple of months to expand his fan base.
Technically Spencer Sutherland’s story is a little different to the ones mentioned before, as he was already active as a pop artist before his fan following started growing with the series of covers. He launched his debut single ‘Heartstrings’ back in 2013 and came back in 2015 with the acoustic EP Unveiled, showing off his musical talent. At the end of last year the single ‘Bad Influence’ saw the light of day, a smooth and sexy mix of pop and R&B with a steamy video. Quite the infectious chorus as well!
Over the past months he has uploaded a cover of a contemporary pop hit each week. He performed tracks by a broad range of artists from Rihanna to Mike Posner and Sia to Drake. With his ukulele cover of Beyoncé’s ‘Drunk In Love’ (yes, really!) he proves his vocals don’t even need the studio fine tuning. He is a talented vocalist with a delicious, sultry tone. Of course it does help that he looks like a star as well, which didn’t go unnoticed by Ford Modelling Company who signed him, working for brands like Timberland and G-star.
His cover of ‘Never Forget You’ by Zara Larsson and MNEK gives a good insight in what his future solo material would ideally sound like! He is currently in the studio writing and recording new tracks for his debut album!
