Single Review: Tom Chaplin – Quicksand

Tom Chaplin The Wave

Tom Chaplin drops second single and video from solo album
It seems Tom Chaplin is so excited about his solo project, he can hardly wait to share it with his fans. The Keane frontman dropped the first single ‘Hardened Heart’ taken from his upcoming album The Wave only two weeks ago and now we already get a video for the track ‘Quicksand’. Based on these two songs, the album, out on the 14th of October, will be filled with dynamic singer-songwriter pop, including big vocals!

Where ‘Hardened Heart’ was quite an uptempo and bombastic piece, ‘Quicksand’ could be described as a midtempo ballad with a big build up to a vivacious chorus with┬áTom Chaplin singing his heart out. The track delivers strong melodies, perfectly suitable for radio. The lyrics are all about helping someone overcome a difficult period: “But if you crash right in the quicksand, I will pick you up, I’ll pull you out.” That’s sweet, isn’t it? The message of the track is translated into visuals with help of a little boy and his human size teddy bear. It definitely is as heart melting as it sounds!
