Bruno Mars returns with swinging new single
Four years have passed since we heard any new solo material by Bruno Mars. In 2012 he launched his second solo album Unorthodox Jukebox with the hit single ‘Locked Out of Heaven’. Mars made the wait until now bearable by releasing the smash hit ‘Uptown Funk’, a collaboration with Mark Ronson, that was all over the radio, every playlist and party during last year. Now the celebrated singer and songwriter is ready to start, as he calls it himself, the third chapter of his career. The album 24K Magic will see the light of day on the 18th of November, but the first single and title track is out now!
Bruno Mars is obviously inspired by the disco and funk of the 70s with an incredibly swinging instrumentation and a few undeniable hooks. The laidback vibe does recall the R&B of the 70s and 80s as well. The production is just so slick from start to finish and Bruno’s delivery of the lyrics is effortlessly cool as always. ’24K Magic’ has that kind of groove which makes it completely impossible to sit still while you listen to it. It is one of those songs that is elevated by an exquistite production, although I feel the chorus could have been even more of a moment with perhaps more vocals and lyrics. As it is now, the chorus blends in with the groove of the whole song, which is not a bad thing either. Lyrically, Mars portrays himself once more as a player with attitude: “I’m a dangerous man with some money in my pocket”, he admits. The feel good track was premiered with a fun music video shot in Las Vegas. Mars is having the time of his life with some ladies in bikinis and in the meantime he goes on a jetski through the fountains. Sounds like the weekend a lot of guys dream of, doesn’t it!? I’m confident radio will eat this up and this will become another huge hit for Mars.
