Single Review: Dua Lipa – Room For 2

Dua Lipa surprises with darker sound on promo single
If you ask me, Dua Lipa has delivered three of the best pop tracks over the past 12 months with her singles ‘Be The One’, ‘Hotter Than Hell’ and ‘Blow Your Mind (Mwah)’. Those tracks are taken from her upcoming (delayed) debut album which is now planned to be released in February 2017. To make that long wait a little more bearable for us, Dua Lipa treats us to another brand new promo track, titled ‘Room For 2’, which sounds completely different from everything we have heard by her so far. The pulsing beats and banging choruses make place for a more subtle and dark approach.

“Up and down, it all comes back around. Push and shove, do you feel better now? Knock, knock, knock you’ll come tumbling down. Karma got a kiss for you”, Dua Lipa whispers/sings with her husky vocal tone. The chorus is subdued, but also strangely hypnotic and addictive. Dua’s delivery is static and haunting at the same time and in combination with the humming towards the outro, it gives off a slightly creepy vibe. She shows she is not a one trick pony with a welcome change of pace and vibe. It is an exciting track which makes me even more curious to finally hear her full debut album.
