Sia launches yet another soundtrack single
It is a good time to be a fan of Sia. The Australian singer-songwriter has been consistently releasing a lot of music while also writing tons of hits for other artists. In the past two years she dropped the studio albums 1000 Forms of Fear (2014) and This Is Acting, which recently was re-released with even more tracks, including current hit ‘The Greatest’, while also providing songs for the soundtracks of movies like Fifty Shades of Grey, Annie, San Andreas, Finding Dory and many more. We can add the upcoming movie Lion to that list as well as Sia and her long time collaborator producer and songwriter Greg Kurstin created the new tune ‘Never Give Up’.

With this constant delivery of new music, there is a risk of over exposure and declining quality with every track. For Sia however, the bigger problem is that most of her recent material starts to sound a bit samey. ‘Never Give Up’ is quite close to the sound that brought her successes with ‘The Greatest’ and ‘Cheap Thrills’. No surprises there, but it is hard to argue with that chorus. Sia and Kurstin once again deliver a solid pop composition with a major hook and a servicable production. To fit the theme of the movie, which mostly takes place in India, they added some Bollywood touches to the track, which work surprisingly well. Although I still would like Sia to go down a different path in the near future, I got to admit her collection of well written choruses is seemingly endless.
