Louis Tomlinson debuts solo sound with Steve Aoki
One Direction fans must have been devastated when the news reached them their favourite band went on a hiatus. A while after Zayn Malik left the band, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson announced they were taking a break from recording music together, but the Directioners are still in luck as the boys start solo careers one after another. After Zayn’s successful solo debut with R&B infused ‘Pillowtalk’, Niall Horan followed more recently with guitar pop number ‘This Town’. Louis Tomlinson goes in the direction of dance with his first single being a collaboration with Steve Aoki.

Tomlinson and Aoki debuted their track ‘Just Hold On’ live on final of the X Factor UK last night and although it seems logical for him to return to the stage that made him big, this performance was not at all a given. Louis is going to a very tough time after his mother passed away only a few days before the show. The singer did a brave thing to turn his grief into an emotional performance that he dedicated to his mum.

‘Just Hold On’ could be described as a generic dance song, tailor made for 2016. It has a big hook as pre-chorus and an infectious instrumental breakdown over which Louis Tomlinson repeats the words ‘Darling, just hold on’. Both sonically and lyrically not very original, but it gains a lot of meaning when you consider what the boyband singer is going through at the moment. “What do you do when a chapter ends?‬ ‪Do you close the book and never read it again?‬ ‪Where do you go when your story’s done?”, he asks himself in the verses, only to conclude in the chorus: “The sun goes down and it comes back up‬. ‪The world it turns no matter what‬.” A hopeful message and infectious beat can be all it takes to get a worldwide hit. This sure is about to happen for Aoki and Tomlinson who already reached the number 1 spot on the iTunes charts in numerous countries!

  1. What a fucking joke, this guy is the worst singer ever! He’s an insult to all singers out there. The nerve of him to think he can succeed a solo career, he rode the coatails of one direction. When the group ended I hoped he would just go away!

    • Joke of the millennium. You can now see how wrong you were three years ago, look at his brilliant career and music! His dedication and his passion. His voice and songwriting skills. His album is a massive success, just like his voice. He’s an inspiration for all, must be yours too by now. And he had a huge contribution towards making one direction successful, in case you didn’t do your research about the band enough. By now surely you’ve changed your opinion about him, or else you’re just stubborn. Cheers!
