Kiesza comes back with fresh new sound on ‘Dearly Beloved’
Canadian pop star Kiesza was one of the big surprises of the year 2014. Her bouncy dance track ‘Hideaway’ became a huge international hit and properly launched her career. Although that debut single is by far her biggest hit to date, she managed to release the more than servicable singles ‘Giant In My Heart’ and ‘No Enemiesz’, cementing her status as exciting new act. While her debut album Sound of a Woman was a swinging mix of 90s inspired house beats and some smooth R&B, she chooses a completely different, but definitely fresh, new direction on comeback single ‘Dearly Beloved’.

For her new track, Kiesza teamed up with producer Stuart Price, who had numerous sucesses with artists like Madonna,  Kylie Minogue and Pet Shop Boys. Although these names might make you expect Kiesza sticks with her electronic dance sound, that is not the case at all. ‘Dearly Beloved’ is a light and fresh pop track with an organic sound. The funky guitar riff that runs through the track gives it that extra little bit of swing. Vocally Kiesza gives it her all during the climatic middle eight. The repetition of the title in the background is contagious and Kiesza proves she doesn’t need beats to deliver insanely catchy hooks. We will have to wait and see if this new direction will match what is popular at the moment, but I applaud Kiesza for delivering undeniable pop hooks with a fresh approach!
