Amy Macdonald finally back with new single ‘Dream On’
Can you believe this year marks the 10th anniversary of Amy Macdonald’s big breakthrough? It was back in 2007 that the by folk inspired pop-rock singer-songwriter from Scotland set the European charts on fire with hit singles like ‘This Is The Life’ and ‘Mr. Rock & Roll’, taken from her debut album. Three years later she dropped the follow up A Curious Thing of which the powerful single ‘Don’t Tell Me That It’s Over’ became a moderate success, but after that, she disappeared from most radars. Her 2012 record Life In A Beautiful Light, despite being a more than decent effort, went by almost unnoticed in a lot of places. Now almost 5(!) years later she is ready to try again with the brand new single ‘Dream On’, taken from the upcoming album Under Stars, out in February.
We received the first taste from Amy’s new project at the end of last year, when she launched the acoustic version of album track ‘Down By The Water’. ‘Dream On’ however is the official first single and after a gap of almost five years you might expect a big departure from her previous sound, but that is not the case. Amy sticks to what she knows best: upbeat pop/rock with characteristic vocals, soaring melodies and uplifting lyrics. She keeps reassuring herself in the chorus: “I’m on top of the world and I’m on the right track, I’m on top of the world and I won’t look back.” ‘Dream On’ is definitely a comeback in style, but at the same time I don’t see this gather much attention after such a long break from releasing music. Anyhow, I’m looking forward to hear what more she has in store on Under Stars, out on the 17th of February!
