First Aid Kit sisters make a statement on International Women’s Day
It has been a while since we heard anything from Swedish duo First Aid Kit. The sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg dropped their most recent album, Stay Gold back in 2014, while the single ‘My Silver Lining’ became a sleeper hit. The ladies just dropped a brand new track, titled ‘You Are The Problem Here’, to coincide with International Women’s Day. The track has a strong message for all men who ever sexually assaulted a woman.
“It’s a song written out of despair. After reading about yet another rape case where the perpetrator was handed a sentence which did not at all reflect the severity of his crime we felt upset and vengeful. We were, and are, sick of living in a society where the victims of rape are often blamed for the horrible thing that has been done to them. Our message is clear and should not be controversial in the least: if you rape, you are the problem. Alcohol is not the problem. So called “youth culture” is not the problem. You are. And you always have a choice”, the sisters explain in a statement.
‘You Are The Problem Here’ is a powerful track with rock influences and an in your face vocal style. The anger in their voices is easily hearable which makes their very important message even stronger. “You are the problem here, no one made you do anything, and I hope you fucking suffer”, they sing to all perpetrators of sexual assault. This song and message need to be heard!
