Single Review: Stargate – Waterfall (feat. Sia & P!nk)

Stargate Waterfall

Stargate teams up with Sia and P!nk for debut single
Norwegian producers duo Stargate has been around in the pop industry for quite a while, leaving a long trace of hits for other artists. Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen now decided it was time to leave the shadows of the producers studio and step into the light as the main recording artists on some new music. Today they dropped the first single ‘Waterfall’, which features vocals by pop super stars Sia and P!nk! They already got the award for best features on a debut single in the bag!

Although the name Stargate might not immediately ring a bell with the general public, their music has been inevitable over the past few years. They produced world wide hit like Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ (written by Sia), Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’, BeyoncĂ© and Shakira’s ‘Beautiful Liar’ and more recently ‘Hymn for the Weekend’ and ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ by Coldplay.

‘Waterfall’ is co-written by Stargate, Sia, Diplo and Jr. Blender and it was Sia’s idea to invite P!nk for a duet. Their vocals blend well together and they equally divided the verses and chorus parts. Needless to say the light dancehall production is flawless and very much 2017, but with all the names involved in the creation of this song, one would expect a better chorus. The build up is quite nice, but the repetition of the sentence ‘I’m in your waterfall’ leaves a better melodic progression to be desired. If the world is not tired yet of the infinite stream of singles with Sia vocals on it, it should be able to become a decent hit though.
