Nicki Minaj drops three new singles at the same time
In the digital era artists try new release strategies to make an impact online. BeyoncĂ© made the surprise release popular and currently artists are experimenting with releasing multiple singles at the same time, which was kind of the standard way back when a sides and b sides were still a thing. When American pop star JoJo made a comeback in 2015 she released three ‘a sides’ at the same time and Ed Sheeran has been dominating the charts since the release of his double single in January this year. Nicki Minaj is the next to try. Almost out of nowhere she dropped three new singles: ‘No Frauds’ featuring Drake and Lil Wayne, ‘Regret In Your Tears’ and ‘Changed It’ with Lil Wayne.

Fans of Nicki Minaj have been waiting quite a while now for a new record by their idol. Her latest LP was released at the end of 2014. Safe to say they deserve the three new tracks! Of the three, ‘Regret In Your Tears’ is probably the most radiofriendly tune with the biggest hit potential, on which the rapper shows of her singing voice with a the help of a decent amount of autotune. The production is exquisite, with a soaring and atmospheric quality, that reminds us of Drake’s work. Lyrically, it deals with Minaj’s recent break up stating: “I just want the memories, tried to make some with you, now I gotta erase some with you.” This sounds fresh and totally like Minaj at the same time!

‘No Frauds’ featuring raps by both Drake and Lil Wayne is basically one big diss track directed at Remy Ma, who targetted Nicki Minaj in her songs recently. The beats are thick, the raps are sharp and the ‘I don’t need no frauds’ hook of the chorus is a proper earworm. This works best playing an headphones with the volume turned up. Lil Wayne collab ‘Changed It’ might be the weakest of the three, but is still quite the tune with a deep beat over which Minaj and Wayne rap how they changed the game. This is a very promising start to a new era of Minaj!
