Katy Perry announces new album and drops Nicki Minaj collaboration
Katy Perry returned to the pop scene at the beginning of this year dropping the single ‘Chained To The Rhythm’, but no news about an album release followed. Last month she launched the single ‘Bon Appétit’, but again stayed silent about an album title and release date. Now, a few weeks later, she announced that the record Witness will see the light of day on the 9th of June and to keep us busy during the wait, she gives us ‘Swish Swish’, a collaboration with Nicki Minaj, as an instant pre-order download.

After ‘Bon Appétit’ served an immaculate production, but disappointed on hooks and basically everything else, ‘Swish Swish’ is a major return to form for Miss Perry. The house beat is on point and then some. It swings and gives the track even more attitude. Like it needed it with those lyrics! I haven’t decided yet if “Your game is tired, You should retire, You’re ’bout cute as an old coupon expired, and karma’s not a liar, she keeps receipts” are brilliant or corny lyrics, but I love Katy’s delivery! The restrained vocals work wonders with the sassiness of the song and production wise, it’s all perfectly executed.

Also, Nicki Minaj’s verse is on fire and the best guest feature she has done in quite a while. If you ask me, they might as well just stop the promo for ‘Bon Appétit’ all together and focus on ‘Swish Swish’ from now on. I’m not 100% sure it is in line with what is popular on radio and the charts these days, but this song is a bop and a half. I can totally see this go off in the clubs as well, with voguing and all that. I’m officially back on the Katy train. Bring on Witness!
