DJ Khaled and Rihanna team up with a Santana sample
DJ Khaled sure isn’t playing around with the release of his upcoming album Grateful. After BeyoncĂ© and Jay Z featured on lead single ‘The Shining’ he had another massive hit with ‘I’m The One’ featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo and Chance The Rapper. After that he unleashed ‘To The Max’ featuring Drake and if that all wasn’t enough yet, he pushes the new single ‘Wild Thoughts’ featuring the one and only Rihanna forward just one week before the full album will see the light of day. Well, we can conclude we got our summer hit for 2017 sorted with this one.
‘Wild Thoughts’, which does not only feature vocals by Rihanna, but also has a spot on verse by Bryson Tiller, micht sound quite familiar, as it samples the beats and guitar riffs of Santana’s iconic hit ‘Maria Maria’ from 1999. Rihanna makes the melody completely her own with attitude and a sensual vocal performance. The ‘wu wu wu’ from ‘Work’ is followed up by her ‘Wa wa wa wild thoughts’, but this time around it is not nearly as annoying. This is easily the best use of a sample I have heard in ages and DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller are going to dominate the charts with this throughout the summer.
Also, can we just sit back for a second and appreciate the unmatched star power Rihanna showcases during her first verse in the music video? Her every move is so effortlessly cool, I can’t keep my eyes off her!
