P!nk returns with long awaited comeback single ‘What About Us’
P!nk is back and it surely was about time! The American pop star dropped her most recent album, The Truth About Love, back in 2012 and all we heard from her in the meantime were a theme song for the Ellen Degeneres Show (‘Today Is The Day’) and the Alice Through The Looking Glass soundtrack (‘Just Like Fire’). Now P!nk announced her big comeback. On the 13th of October, her seventh album Beautiful Trauma will see the light of day and the first single ‘What About Us’ is out right now!

Although five years is a long time, P!nk still seems to be a pop force to be reckoned with, as she was over 10 years into her already impressive career when she had one of her biggest hits with ‘Just Give Me A Reason’ in 2013. On the new single ‘What About Us’ P!nk switches up her sound slighty as it is built on a light dance beat with subtle synths. The laidback vibe is danceable, but there seems to be more emphasis on the message in the lyrics, which lack originality at times. The words could be interpreted as being about a relationship as well as the political situation in the USA at the moment, but in both instances it is worded with cliches (‘we are rockets pointed up at the stars’ or ‘sticks and stones, they may break these bones’). ‘What About Us’ sounds current enough to become a hit, but it certainly won’t go down in history as one of P!nk’s biggest moments.
