Single Review: Miguel – Sky Walker (feat. Travis Scott)

Miguel Skywalker

Miguel celebrates life on new single ‘Skywalker’
It has been over two years since Miguel released his latest album Wildheart, which was his best one yet, but luckily he kept busy after that record dropped. Last year he appeared on the soundtrack for Netflix series The Get Down with the track ‘Cadillac’ and the R&B star is much sought after for collaborations with other artists. He appeared on Disclosure’s second record, was featured on Dua Lipa single ‘Lost In Your Light’, worked on John Legend’s most recent record and appeared on tracks by Mac Miller and French Montana among others. Earlier this year he dropped the new tune ‘2 Lovin U’ on which he worked with DJ Premier, which seemed to be a one off thing, but now he is back with new single ‘Skywalker’ featuring Travis Scott. There is no news yet on if this might be the lead for his upcoming fourth album.

‘Sky Walker’ is mainly Miguel having fun! The lyrics are all about making the most of life and enjoying yourself out there. That might not sound very original, but you can leave it to Miguel to write some unusual, tongue in cheek pop culture references with it. He mentions Tom Cruise and his iconic movie Top Gun and it turns out Miguel is quite the Star Wars fan! “I’m Luke Skywalkin’ on these haters”, he sings over a laidback beat during the infectious ear worm chorus of the track. This is the kind of thing I want to be jamming to on the last warm summer nights of this year. That is exactly what Miguel and his friends seem to be doing in the video that depicts the lyrics in a hilariously literal way. Turns out we are having fun when Miguel is having fun!
