Gabriela Francesca fires back at gossip girls with ‘Blah Blah Blah’
Have you ever found yourself to be the topic of some nasty gossiping? LA based upcoming pop star Gabriela Francesca has, but she is here with the perfect answer. She thought to herself, why not turn my response into a smooth and cheeky disco pop track and we applaud her for that. A Bit of Pop Music premieres ‘Blah Blah Blah’ and we had a little chat with Gabriela about the new single and how to deal with being the subject of the rumour mill!
‘Blah Blah Blah’ is Gabriela Francesca’s third single and boy does she step up her game with each of them. ‘Blah Blah Blah’ was co-written with April Bender and produced by GEO. The result is a polished, sparkling piece of disco pop with undeniable hooks and some seriously cheeky lyrics! We just had to ask this pop star on the rise all about it!
Your new single is an infectious disco pop track. How did this sound come to be and were there any artists that inspired you to go in this direction?
“I feel like disco is a genre of music that’s totally been slept on. It’s just now becoming hot again, but it’s always been hot to me! The disco sound marries lusty, bad ass filthiness with a galactic elegance. It’s down and dirty, yet completely suave and effortless as well. I think the disco-pop vibe of ‘Blah Blah Blah’ made a great foundation for the playful, cheeky lyrics of the song. I didn’t want it to come across too serious. I am inspired by artists like Jamiroquai and POWERS, who definitely have that disco influence in their music.”
What inspired you to write ‘Blah Blah Blah’?
“I wanted to have a little fun with people who love to run their mouths. I’m poking fun at everyone who ever trash-talked me, and laughing at what their reaction might be to me calling them out. At the time the song was written, I seemed to be a hot topic for rumors and it was getting back around to me, as gossip often does. I had entered a new relationship, and of course whenever you take a great guy off the market, jealous people want to mud-sling. It became amusing after a while, the passive-aggressive social media posts meant to push my buttons… I could just imagine those girls, drinking mimosas at the most Instagram-able new brunch spot, talking for hours about everybody they’re threatened by. I’m always imagining scenarios when I write and it was something on my mind, so when I got together with GEO and April Bender, we came up with ‘Blah Blah Blah’, dedicated to the B*tches Who Brunch. It’s a ‘get a life’ type of song mixed with a little bit of ‘I’m still the shit and you know it’ cockiness. To anybody who may take offense… if the shoe fits, right?”
What is the worst rumour you ever heard about yourself?
“I don’t know what would qualify as the worst, because they don’t really hurt my feelings, but I’ve definitely heard some wildly untrue rumors. The funniest was probably that my best friend Kira and I are lovers. That one gave us a good laugh. I’m very comfortable being a topic of gossip though; it’s flattering in a way and funny to hear how warped things get through the grapevine.”
If there was a rumor flying around about you having a romance with a famous person, who would you want it to be and why?
“Honestly, I’m pretty much an open book about my life, especially love, so I think everybody would already know if I were seeing someone, especially a famous person! I would hope there wouldn’t be a rumor flying around about that though, because I’m in a relationship currently and I don’t think my man would be too happy to hear about that! I guess if I had to answer…I’d be down to be Lady Gaga’s supposed new flame. I think in general we’d be super compatible as friends, and I already have a history of being mistaken for my best friends’ girlfriend anyway, so bring on the rumors!”
What is your message for people who find themselves to be the subject of the rumor mill?
“You should know that everybody deals with gossips, and the root of that behavior is jealousy, insecurity, immaturity and most of all, boredom. Trust me. It feels self-centered that somebody might actually be jealous of you, but jealousy is a common disease. See it through a lens of knowing you’re the shit, rather than thinking people are trash-talking you because you’re a loser or have something to be sorry for. Like I say in the song, your biggest hater is actually ‘your biggest fan’. My brother Justin always told me that people hate up, not down. They only go after those who they feel are ‘above’ them in some way. Be true to you, be considerate of others, and mind your own beeswax. If the rumors continue to fly, just smile and continue on with your life. It’ll drive ‘em crazy!”
Thanks for that, Gabriela! Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you, ‘Blah Blah Blah’, an anthem about ‘B*tches who Brunch’!
