Friday’s Five Tunes with CHILDCARE

CHILDCARE (1 of 1)

Always wondered what pop stars themselves listen to whenever they are not on stage or writing new music? It’s time to find out! Every week, A Bit of Pop Music will bring you Friday’s Five Tunes, a selection of five favourite songs by a current pop artist. This week CHILDCARE tells us all about the songs she fell completely in love with.

The band CHILDCARE was started by Ed Cares, who was persuaded into a music career by the children he was taking care of (what’s in a name!). He collected musicians Emma Topolski (bass), Rich Legate (guitar) and Glyn Daniels (drums) around him and together they toured as supporting act for Bastille. Earlier this year they launched their debut EP Made Simple. Last month they dropped the bonkers, lyrically brilliant and insanely catchy new single ‘Getting Over You (By Dressing Up Like You)’, which showed off their huge potential. This week they launched new track ‘Put Down Your Pen’. While the band is on tour at the moment, Ed, Rich and sound engineer Karima still found some time to select their five favourite songs for us, with short but sweet descriptions!

Tirzah – Make It Up
Ed:“Like Jabba the Hutt sashaying across a dance floor.”

The Undertones – You’ve Got My Number (Why Don’t You Use It!)
Rich: “This song is my favourite song to listen to in a moving vehicle in the summertime. My friend Terry played it to me once in his loft and since then it’s been my go to track for venting about why none of the girls I fancy ever text me!”

Rare Silk – Storm
Rich: “I found this on an internet trawl of obscure psychedelic music and then combined it with clips from a Westwood / Jay-Z Glastonbury interview for our intro music.”

Cody Chesnutt – Don’t Go The Other Way
Karima (sound engineer): “Gangster turned chanteur. Real nice.”

Selena Gomez – Bad Liar
Ed: “I heard this song in the week after Glastonbury and I cried with joy.”

That list was all over the place, but to be fair the best lists are, right!? Now please check out the all kinds of brilliant CHILDCARE single ‘Getting Over You (By Dressing Up Like You)’!

Oh, and they’ve got a brand new single titled ‘Put Down Your Pen’ out now!
