Børns launches Lana Del Rey duet as next single
The new year is off to an exciting start, especially for singer-songwriter and pop artist Børns. The American musician will drop his sophomore record Blue Madonna on the 12th of January. After excellent singles like ‘Sweet Dreams’ and ‘Faded Heart’, he now drops ‘God Save Our Young Blood’, a duet with Lana Del Rey. I couldn’t think of a better track to kick our new year off with!

For Lana Del Rey this is the first new release since she dropped her latest record Lust For Life last summer, which was subsequently chosen as A Bit of Pop Music’s album of the year! In an interview with Zane Lowe, Børns explained how he already had Del Rey in mind when writing and recording the first version of ‘God Save Our Young Blood’. He even tried to mimic her voice as backing vocals. Then it turned out Lana was actually happy to provide her very own vocals for the tune. It is hypnotizing how their voices completely blend on the track. Sometimes it is even hard to tell if Lana actually joins in for a line or not.

Production and composition wise t’God Save Our Young Blood’ is a beautiful combination of the sonic worlds of both artists. It has that unique melancholy Del Rey is known for with an electronic production that is in line with Børns’ recent work. The first time the beat fades, the pace changes and the chorus comes on is such a moment. And then I’m not even talking about that key change in the last chorus yet! This is one of those moments where two artists come together to create something that takes the best of both worlds!
