Kendrick Lamar and SZA drop Black Panther soundtrack ‘All The Stars’
2017 was a big year for both Kendrick Lamar and SZA. Lamar had a huge hit with his single ‘Humble’ and the album Damn that followed. SZA dropped her successful debut album Ctrl and had a major international hit with Maroon 5 collaboration ‘What Lovers Do’. Now 2018 is off to a good start for both of them. Lamar will curate the soundtrack to upcoming movie Black Panther (out in Feburary) and the first single is collaboration ‘All The Stars’ with SZA!
It is safe to say that ‘All The Stars’ sounds surprisingly poppy! It is more of a ‘SZA featuring Kendrick Lamar’ situation as he basically only provides one verse, while she handles most of the vocals. The bridge from verse to chorus is layered with vocal effects which fade away when the actual chorus kicks in. SZA’s vocals shine bright when belting out that killer hook. The beat is groovy and the production even elevates the track into dreamy territory. After the Børns and Lana Del Rey duet and the ‘Finesse’ remix by Bruno Mars and Cardi B, this is the third outstanding collaboration of the year and we are only four days in!
