Single Review: Khalid & Normani – Love Lies

Khalid teams up with Normani for Love, Simon soundtrack
Khalid was one of the break out stars of 2017. The 20-year-old R&B talent launched his debut album American Teen and had a few hit singles, including collaborations with Marshmello, Logic and Alessia Cara and Lorde. His new single ‘Love Lies’ is a duet with Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei. After the huge success of Camila Cabello’s solo career and Lauren Jauregui’s collaborations with Halsey and Steve Aoki, Normani is the next band member who tries her luck without her girls. And lucky she got with Khalid as a duet partner!

‘Love Lies’ is used as the official soundtrack for the movie Love, Simon. The tune is a modern day R&B ballad that tells the story of two lovers who tackle their own insecurities and communicate about what they want from this relationship. That description sounded a lot less romantic and smooth than the actual track is though! Khalid’s soulful vocals match well with Normani’s sometimes sensual and sometimes raw tones and especially in the chorus they beautifully melt together. The track builds up from guitar and finger snaps to a deep hiphop beat that sticks around until the end. ‘Love Lies’ both proves that Khalid is one of the most exciting young talents in the industry at the moment and that Normani has a bright career in front of her, with or without Fifth Harmony.

  1. I didn’t know this song was going to be in Love, Simon! And Bleachers and Troye Sivan are going to be on that soundtrack as well! Damn, if that movie’s no good, at least the soundtrack will be!
