Anne-Marie brings back the early noughties on new single
We are only one week away from the release of Anne-Marie’s long awaited debut album Speak Your Mind. The British pop stars first stormed the charts with her single ‘Alarm’ and managed to grow her profile with every release ever since. ‘Ciao Adios’ became an international smash hit and her collaboration with Clean Bandit, ‘Rockabye’, hit number 1. She currently has a hit with the feisty track ‘Friends’, a collaboration with Marshmello. Her new single ‘2002’, was co-written with the one and only Ed Sheeran!

Sheeran has been teasing Anne-Marie on social media for a while now. The singer-songwriter wanted ‘2002’ to become her next single, so he started to stalk her in comment sections, asking for the track to be released before the album. Now here it is and it might be a smart move with Spring properly getting started. ‘2002’ is a breezy, guitar driven, laidback pop tune on which Anne-Marie reminisces about a crush she had in her early teenage years. The chorus is incredibly catchy, naming famous songs from that period including Nelly’s ‘Ride With Me’, Britney’s ‘…Baby One More Time’, Jay-Z’s ’99 Problems’ and *NSYNC’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’. The execution is clever (think Kid Rock’s ‘All Summer Long’ mentioning ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ levels of catchiness) and I am pretty sure Anne-Marie’s generation will relate. I for one sure do!
