Camila Cabello and Pharrell Williams drop studio version of collab
Former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello catapulted herself into solo stardom when her infectious single ‘Havana’ became a number 1 hit around the world. Follow up track ‘Never Be The Same’ did reasonably well too and debut album Camila was released at the start of the year. Cabello went on her first solo tour where she also performed a tune called ‘Sangria Wine’, that did not make the cut for the album. The collaboration with Pharrell Williams however now gets a proper single release!
Camila collaborated with Pharrell before on ‘Havana’, where he provides backing vocals as well as being a co-writer. ‘Sangria Wine’ is more of a duet though, as both artists perform their verses while doing the one word chorus together, that by the way does not reference the drink but a dance move. The track has some salsa and reggae influences, while the production does sound like Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ at times. Camila switches between English and Spanish and her delivery is pop star worthy. To be honest, the repetitive character of the track does not work as well as it did for ‘Havana’, but with summer around the corner, this could easily become a hit.
