Always wondered what pop artists themselves listen to whenever they are not on stage or writing new music? It’s time to find out! A Bit of Pop Music brings you Friday’s Five Tunes, a selection of five favourite songs by a current pop artist. This week we get to hear the absolute favourites of Jason Carlson.

Jason Carlson (born Jornt Karel) is a Dutch pop artist who launched his debut single ‘Another Life (Diggy, Diggy)’ back in 2015. The sunny pop track brought summer through our speakers back then and now, three years later, he is about to do the same. Carlson just released his brand new track ‘Inside Out’ and it is another summer hit worthy, infectious pop track. Jason is determined to bring a heatwave this time with a steamy vibe and some sexy lyrics! A Bit of Pop Music asked him about his favourite songs and he selected five hot tunes for us!

SZA – The Weekend
“SZA is one of my favourite artists. I am inspired by the way she writes her lyrics and tells a story in all of her tracks. Most of the time her lyrics don’t rhyme, but it is still easy to listen to. In my opinion she reached a next level form of art. I had a hard time choosing my favourite SZA track, but ‘The Weekend’ has the highest number of plays on my playlist. It’s a song about sharing a man with another woman and making the most out of being a side chick.”

TY Dolla $ign – Side Effects
“Ty Dolla $ign has to be one of my biggest inspirations to date. I believe he is the most hard-working man in the music industry right now. Just check out his artist page on Spotify! He features on more than 300 tracks and drops albums and EPs each and every year. I absolutely love the rawness in his voice. ‘Side Effects’ has to be one of my favourites. I love the summer vibe going on and the metaphors in the lyrics, where he compares love to prescription drugs.”

Qveen Herby – All These Hoes
“I fell in love with Amy Renee as Qveen Herby from the moment I discovered her. It is so inspiring to see how an artist can change their image and come back just as hard. Qveen Herby started out as duo Karmin and released catchy pop songs. Last year Amy Renee and her producer switched their act up and rebranded their act to Qveen Herby. I am hooked to this new urban-pop/hip hop vibe. Qveen Herby is dropping song after song and she is about to release her third EP in a year. I can’t wait!”

Sinead Harnett – If You Let Me (feat. Grades)
“I discovered this song about a year ago and it has been on repeat ever since. I really admire the production quality of the track. It gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. The lyrics are easy to take in, but still work. The combination of the vibe, melodies and vocals really match my taste of music.”

Evanescence – My Immortal
“My immortal is a very important song to me. I listened to Evanescence’s music a lot while growing up. ‘My Immortal’ was one of the first songs I learned to play on the piano. This song really helped me to learn how to channel my emotions trough music.”

Thanks Jason, for this list of delicious contemporary tunes and an absolute classic! If you haven’t yet, you can check out Jason Carlson’s brand new single right here!
