Martin Garrix teams up with Khalid on new single ‘Ocean’
Dutch DJ Martin Garrix had his big breakthrough back in 2013 with his track ‘Animals’. More recently, he started to collaborate with some pop stars on extremely radiofriendly and ‘on trend’ material, while also continuing to drop proper house records with other DJs. After having successful singles with the likes of Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa and most recently Troye Sivan, it was about time for another hit collab. This time Martin ended up with Khalid, who seems to have developed himself as the king of collaborations, having recently worked with Billie Eilish, Normani, Shawn Mendes and more. Together they released the brand new single ‘Ocean’.
‘Ocean’ is the type of love song that talks about how ‘oceans won’t keep us apart’. Original? Not really, but it is packed in a terrific production. One could best describe this track as a dance ballad, which mixes the electronic with the organic. It does have a post chorus drop, but one of the most subtle and almost moving you have heard within the genre. Everything about ‘Ocean’ feels subtle, warm and romantic, in which Khalid’s distinctive vocals of course play a big part. I am pretty sure Martin Garrix has got another hit in his hands!
